Speed Dating: Is It For Me?

Call us biased, but yes! In fact, we are nodding such a big, fat, resounding yes that our heads are in danger of falling off. You see, the beauty of speed dating is that there’s no time wasting involved. We know that you are pressed, and we know that you don’t want to waste entire evenings dating a lost cause.

As you know, first impressions count – big time. You can usually tell within minutes of meeting someone whether or not you could happily fall for them and, in the same way, you know if they would get the thumbs down.

With speed dating, if you didn’t like your last ‘date’, then there’s no need to worry, simply move on to the next, content in the knowledge that you’ve only wasted minutes, and keep searching for your dream partner. Another bonus of speed events is that they take much of the awkwardness and the sting out of dating.

We are also one of the only companies in the UK to start catering to gay, lesbian and bi-curious communities. If you are one of the many minority groups looking for a love interest, then simply fill in our ‘Register your interest’ form and get ready to meet your match.

With the days of the 9-5 job long gone, our lives are becoming more hectic than ever. When we’re not chained to our desks or glued to our iPhones, we’re firing off emails from our laptops, networking with other companies, or working from home, pizza takeout in one hand, Blackberry (or red wine) in the other. And if you’re one of the lucky ones who does manage to escape work early, then we can almost guarantee that you spend the rest of your life in the gym. The weekdays of lounging around a cosy pub with your friends and knocking back pints have all but faded and, with it, our chances of meeting someone new, we’re right, aren’t we?

You see, socialising no longer seems to take pride of place. We’ve become less about the work / life balance, and all about the boasting of long, killer hours in the office. So, where does that leave you? How do you meet new people, make new friends? And for singletons living life in the fast lane, just where do you find the time to meet that special someone?  Thankfully, that’s where the team at MySpeedDate come in.

Event information and how it works

What is speed dating?

MySpeedDate runs events for a variety of age groups in Bristol, Cardiff, London, Birmingham, Nottingham, Manchester and Leeds.  The events provide a great opportunity to meet people – and possibly even find your soul mate.

Internet dating is an increasingly popular way of meeting other people, with a significant (and growing) number of long term relationships now starting via the internet in one way or another.   However, one of the huge advantages that speed dating offers over other forms of internet dating is it minimises any pressure you might feel about ‘going on a date’.

How our events work

At a speed date event you’ll have chance to have up to 20 mini dates in one evening and after the evening  you’ll have opportunity to exchange contact details with anyone you’d possibly like to arrange to meet up with again.   Your contact details are always kept confidential, though, so without your consent no-one else from an event would be able to access personal details about you or contact you.

Even better, you don’t exchange details at the event itself, so there’s no potential embarrassment to worry about if you don’t feel someone you’ve met is for you.   You have the leisure to go away after the event and decide which of the participants you might be interested in meeting again.

Coming to a MySpeedDate event

Don’t worry if you don’t have anyone to come to an event with the first time you come.  All our events are facilitated by a MySpeedDate host who makes sure everything runs smoothly and that everyone has a relaxing, enjoyable and fun evening.  Some of our participants arrive with a friend or in groups, but a significant proportion come alone – roughly 33% of the women and 65% of the men who take part.

Who are MyspeedDate?

We are market leaders in setting up and facilitating high quality, enjoyable speed dating events in a range of cities across the UK – including running MySpeedDate evenings in your local area!

Like you, we’ve been single and so know the potential pleasures and pitfalls of meeting people via the internet. We make use of all this experience to provide you with the best opportunities possible to make new friends or seek out your possible ‘Mr / Miss Right’.

Not sure if speed dating is for you?

It’s a great way to meet new people in a relaxed, no pressure environment. You can come to an event on your own or with others – either way you’ll be in good company.  Around two fifths of the women, and well over half of the men, who take part in our events come on their own.

Because you’ll meet lots of different people in one evening at a Speed Dating event, there’s no-one to feel you might upset of offend if you decide some people you meet at an event are not to your taste. Even better, the chances are that those who you don’t feel you are compatible with will hopefully have met someone else at the event they like. Potentially everyone’s a winner!

What happens at a MySpeedDate event?

Our experienced host will greet and welcome you. After an initial chance to settle into the venue and get a drink at the bar if you want, you’ll take part in a series of ‘mini-dates’ – giving you chance to meet up to twenty people in one evening.  Each mine-date session lasts for around five minutes.  So it’s ideal: long enough to allow you to decide if you’d like to get to know them better – but not so long that you waste valuable time chatting to people you quickly decide aren’t for you!

What if I don’t want to meet a ‘date’ again?

No problem.  It’s always you who’ll be in control of who you’d like to stay in contact with after a MySpeedDate event. Your personal details are never shared with anyone else by us. Here’s how it works: If you think you’d like to meet someone again, after the event you simply mark them on our website as a ‘Yes’ or a ‘Friend’. Providing they’d also like to stay in touch with you and have ticked you as a potential ‘Yes’ / ‘Friend’, you have then opportunity contact one another using our MySpeedDate messaging facility.

An added bonus:  if you attend an event and don’t meet anyone you like, we’ll offer you a credit on to your account so you can come to another event and try again.

How speed dating works

Speed dating is a great way to meet new people:  You might want to just make some new friends and have fun or you may be hoping to meet that ’special person’.  Either way, a MySpeedDate event will give you opportunity to do it. Events take place in a range of venues that have been specifically chosen because they lend themselves well to getting to know other people socially. In addition, the events are structured and managed by our experienced hosts to maximise your opportunity to meet people, some of whom you’ll hopefully hit it off with.

Deciding which dates you’d like to meet again

MySpeedDate works using a rating system.  After each mini-date you decide how compatible you think you and that participant were and make a note for yourself about whether you’d be interested in meeting them again.  Don’t worry, though, it’s not something you’ll be sharing with anyone at the event. After the event though, you go online and record for all the participants you met whether you’d like to have chance to make contact with them again.  If you tick someone and they tick you back, then you’ve got a ‘match’. This means you’ll then be free to chat to that person if you’d like via our messaging service. This ensures that you are in complete control of who you would like to chat with after the event.

Finding new friends and partners

With so many people to meet at an event, chances are that you’ll want to get to know some of them a bit better afterwards by staying in contact with them or meeting them again.  However, if you attend one of our events and don’t meet anyone at all that you like, you can get a credit to come to another MySpeedDate event at a later date.

What are our events like?

We know that the background and location of a first date is important and we want you to remember your night fondly. That’s why we hold our MySpeedDate events at the most stylish venues in Birmingham as well as staging events in other areas of the West Midlands and the Black Country. It’s a great opportunity to have a good night out without having to deal with your shoes sticking to the floor as you might have to in one of Birmingham’s night clubs

The format goes something like this: you arrive and have an opportunity to unwind at the bar prior to the dates. Once the dates begin, you spend between 4 ½ to 5 minutes chatting, we make sure we stop half way through the night for a 20 minute break, this gives everyone an opportunity for refills and a little breather. The dating works on a scorecard system, and works online after the event. If you tick someone and they tick you back then you’ve got a match, once a match is created you will then be free to chat to that person within our messaging service. This ensures that you are complete control of who you would like to chat with after the event.

We like to ensure your satisfaction so if you attend one of our events and don’t find anyone appealing you get a credit added to your account so you can come again for free. Get in touch today and do something different.

It’s Fast, It’s fun and in your area!

Let’s face it: Loud music and free-flowing alcohol are not ideal ingredients for finding a quality date.

Rules and tidbits:

On television and in the movies, speed dating seems quick. In real life, four to five minutes is an amazing amount of time to learn all the who, what, why, where and when of your fellow speed dater.

When the event begins you’ll have your allocated time to talk with the person opposite you before moving on to the next. If you enjoyed your time, mark it on the card given.

After the speed dating session has finished, don’t go rushing off, as the evening doesn’t end there – the bar stays open and the guests usually stay on and mingle to get to know each other better.

At the end of the speed dating sessions, guests take their scorecards home with them to enter their results on to our website. If someone you have ‘ticked’ has also ticked you, then you both have a ‘match’!

You can then get back in contact with your matches via our messaging system if you wish to arrange meeting up again. Everyone’s details stay live for around 6 months after the event.

Simple. You get to meet plenty of new people, potential new contacts, friends or maybe lovers and avoid the many trials and tribulations involved in trying to meet new people.
